Canterbury With Love

The Nelson Market regional fundraising push for Christchurch finishes this Saturday 23 April. Vouchers donated by Market Stall holders and other Nelson businesses are available to the public until Easter and represent a wide range of goods and services.

“The campaign has been enthusiastically greeted by Market stall holders and other Nelson businesses”, says Nelson Market Founder and Owner Operator, Nita Knight.

“While there has been an excellent response we believe we will quickly need more vouchers and hope the Nelson business community will go all out for Canterbury by continuing to donate vouchers for the appeal.  Fundraising continues on for the next three Saturdays including Easter Saturday”, says Ms Knight.

“We want to make participation affordable”, she says. “The vouchers represent a wide range of choices starting from just five dollars for a beautiful handmade soap, to grocery and petrol vouchers, right up to a night’s luxury accommodation for two. This is valued at over $ 475.00 dollars and is now being offered at $300 dollars”.

The appeal will take place under the black and red tent at the Nelson Market, next to the food tables towards Rebel Sports. (Look for the red and black balloons and banners). 
It will be headed by Tui France, former Nelson City Deputy Mayor, whom many will remember for her tireless efforts on behalf of the Nelson Hospital CT scanner appeal. The fundraising team will donate one hundred percent of all proceeds to the ‘The New Zealand Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal’. More FM  is supporting the campaign and Mediaworks Manager, Christine Hatton, acknowledges the close relationship that Nelsonians have with Canterbury. “This situation reminds us all of just how lucky we are and how challenging things must be there”, she says. 

“At times of extreme crisis such as this devastating earthquake New Zealand becomes even more of a close knit community”, says Knight. “ We recognise the necessity to help each other. Every  ‘To Canterbury With Love’, voucher will help support our neighbours to rebuild their lives,” she says.
