100% silk scarf with a hand-painted batik design

Ships From: New Zealand

Sold By : Unique Threads Categories: ,

Description

The scarf is made with 2 layers of medium weight Habotai silk.  Size: 22 x 150 cm

It is sewn so there are no visible edges, which gives the scarf a neat finish.

The batik pattern is a resist technique using cold-water wax which is drawn on with a pipette.

The wax is then fixed into the fabric, before the dyes are individually hand-painted with non-toxic dyes

Salt is then sprinkled onto the fabric, which draws moisture to itself, to leave behind a pattern of dye.

Once dried, the scarf is steam-fixed to create strong, vibrant, and permanent colours.

Care: Hand-wash using wool wash in lukewarm water, rinse in a small amount of fabric softener, (optional).  Spin in washing machine, or hang to dry.

Iron using a silk/wool setting.

Influenced by my environment, each day presents itself as a creative adventure.  I have been a Nelson Market stall holder for the last 26 years.

I have always made a range of gift items which are easy to post, and over the years have been very popular with the overseas visitors and locals alike.

Only a few product lines are listed on this website, but if you would like to enquire about a product that you have seen at my Nelson market stall,  then feel free to contact me either via my wesite, facebook page, or at my studio.  Which is open Monday – Friday 10 till 4, phoning first is recommended, or visit me at my stall.
