Quality gift items made from hand-dyed natural fabrics. All fabrics are washable, and the colours are permanently fixed into the fabrics.
My colours are bright and strong to reflect the vibrancy of the Nelson Region.
Each item is unique and individually hand-made, washable and the colours are permanently fixed into the fabrics.
I make a wide range of products. Silk and merino scarves, sun visors, purses, fridge magnets, gift cards, spec cases, aprons, and cushion covers,
which incorporate a variety of dyeing techniques.
Silk Scarf – Night Sky
100% silk scarf. Neck warmer style.
The scarf is made from 2 layers of medium/heavy weight habotai silk. It is sewn so that there are no visible edges, which gives the scarf a neat finish.
Size: 22 x 200 cm (9 x 80 inches)
The non-toxic dyes are painted onto the silk, and while the fabric is still damp; urea, (which is the form of small white balls), are placed on the fabric in a random pattern.
The urea draws the dye to itself, leaving behind a “bleached-out” halo effect. It does not harm the fabric.
Once dried, the colours are steam-fixed for 2 to 3 hours. The steaming process creates permanent, vibrant, colour.
When I use a combination of dark blue dyes, it reminds me of the crystal clear starry nights we can experience here in Nelson.
